“The Queen of the Herd” is the lead cow of a herd of cattle that has earned her dominant position through natural battles for dominance. This tradition is particularly well-known among the Eringer breed (Evolène/Hérenes) in the Swiss canton of Valais, in the Italian Aosta Valley, and in the French region of Savoy.
